The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration has made a record of the percentage of greenhouse gases emitted in March as more than 400 parts per million. This is the highest concentration of greenhouse gases ever recorded. This is quite a significant point in history.
This is a reason to rob many of a peaceful sleep as the accumulation of greenhouse gases is responsible for the phenomenon of global warming. This is complimented by the fact that developed and developing nations across the world continue to throttle heavy quantities of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere.
Industrialization has thrown up several factories and industries letting out huge quantities of smoke and carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. The issue is to be raked up at a formal gathering of world leaders scheduled for Paris later this year. A comprehensive treaty to put a cap to carbon emissions is on the anvil.
It is significant to note that the present crisis is the work of irresponsible and disproportionate burning of fossil fuels. Concentrations of carbon dioxide are found to shoot up to levels higher than they were before industrialization. A major part of the hike has come about since 1980.
The damage done in the recent past has been the worst. The world's atmosphere recorded an acceleration of 2.25 ppm in terms of the accumulation of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere between 2012 and 2014. This is the largest figure recorded in terms of acceleration of carbon dioxide accumulation in the past three years.
The global average is expected to be above 400ppm throughout the month of May. This is the time of the year when the concentrations of carbon dioxide remain at a peak. There is very little that could be done to reverse the trend.
